OK - based on something void posted - I am inspired. What are the 5 dj's or mc's that peeps would like to see play up here in our beloved North West?

Heres my tuppence:

1. DJ Lee
2. DJ Marky
3. Dj Die and MC Dynamite
4. Grooverider
5. JJ Frost

I think im looking more towards dj's it would be harder to get to play in manc or liverpool or else Marcus would be on there everytime (he dont play manc as often as he should do he)...

trace
c4c
optical
digital
lemon-d

DJ DIE is bad ass !! I've seen him a few times and he is the best outta the full cycle camp IMO.

I'd like to see Stakka N Skynet,Zinc, Mampi Swift, Bailey, Loxy, Tech Itch would be wicked n all.

i'd really like to know who you guys want to see, we book people we rate who dont get enough exposure, but there's no point getting DJs that the d&b in the northwest dont wanna see....

im eager to see more drum & bass in manchester now. there is loads of d&b in liverpool, including the almighty 'X' (amazing nite, any1 been?).

DJ's id like to see in m/cr then, heres what i think...

Andy C
Ray Keith
Grooverider
Hype
J Majik

A pretty well-rounded choice im sure y'all agree.

a medium name may be:
Digital
Cause4Concern
Matrix
Kemal
Loxy
Klute
High Contrast
Addiction
Blame
DJ Lee
Flight
Usual Suspects

I'd Say . .

Andy C
&
High Contrast

To be honest I dont think a big
name MC would pull that much more
and would be a massive expence.
There are plenty of good MC's in
Machester that could pull off a good
nite and @ half the price ;)

It's a real shame though that everyone is arsed about the big names! how big do you want to make them! what about ourselves as dj's/mc's/promoters/artists? I've been in this for a very long time and take it from me, concentrate on the next generation and not the guys who are closing opportunities for a lot of us. don't get me wrong, people like rider, andy c etc (all who we have worked with numerous times) have worked for years on this shit but come on people, lets get our priorities togehter. Sophonic and spell201 pull more people than many nights elsewhere and the music quailty is second to none. if anyone agrees with me then sweet, if not then just keep chasing those dreams.

07-03-2002, 01:35 PM
nah, i am a nice guy really but i dont want people to loose their touch on things. I want void to build their night as 'void' and not as andy c and mc gq. a nite of good music, nice crowd, good mc (ha ha, u'll know if you were there- I was mcing!), phat sound system etc. I want the up and coming dj's like focus (i've got a few of your tunes on cd man!) to focus on their own styles and not follow the big names etc, and for more local mc's to get a chance in their own towns cause their are people up here who have worked on this shit for a lot longer than many people. anyway keep it in mind, if what i've said makes you think then sweet, if not then just carry on raving! peace.

deval - mate i agree with you totally!

in hindsight that post looks as if i'm after Andy C & GQ as oppose to 'Void', it aint like that....
to be honest i'm doing this for the same reason you do nights, to play music you want to hear and play yourselves. thats why we have 5 residents who play every time.

it is a real shame everyone cares, but with our costs we would be f***ed if we just booked red one, for example...everyone said to me in the weeks b4 that night 'it aint ram without andy' and we all know thats bollox. red one is the label manager for a start....!

i would like to do this:
Matrix
High Contrast
Panik
Sol (natch!)
Reftek (that would be me)
Default
MC Ninety
MC Deval

we therefore get a manc element in, something that i was keen to do, as i am fairly new up here and it was u lot that built the scene, not me, if it happened in my area i'd be interested as well.
unfortunately (dunno if u know this) the club hav stated 'no manc DJs or Mcs' which fucks us over a bit...makes us look like outsiders coming in without giving a shit about the local crew, which is untrue. when we started planning, it was gonna be Cause4Concern, Marcus, MC Rage and Piper but we couldnt do it.

i agree with you completely, we are looking into trying to make it so we can get our student DJs to play (Panik, me and Default), get a big (ish) guest and then get a couple of the local boyz down as well. that way everyone is happy, what do u think deval??

oh yeah, u werent too bad on the mic either! hehehe

give me a pm if you wanna talk, i have some ideas....

Ok - I will add my blast...

I think that andy c is a great dj and would do you justice on the pulling people in score, but i think a bit of diversity woud be great. Ive never seen high contrast so I wouldnt mind him coming up. I think I also started this post off saying i really wanna see dj lee - so how about:

Dj Lee
High Contrast
The local boys (sol, deval, si smith, etc)

What a varied night that would be. Absolute quality guaranteed and no massive names (although in my eyes lee is fucking ace!!!)

I fully agree with deval - we need to concentrate on the local boys and the talent up here, but also wouldnt it be great to get some of the talent from daarn saarrf to join us?

Variation can only be good. Who ever heard of a london club booking dj's from up here? Well, they do, just look at future cut, sappo, futurebound...the list goes on. I used to think there was no scene at all up here until i actually opened my eyes...its FUCKING EVERYWERE!! One nation this coming weekend in manchester, sophonic sessions, its going mad.

andy is wicked but i dont really want to book him.
lee & h.contrast - both bad...but with lee costing around £500 its hard to justify the booking if we have any chance of not losing a lot of £££....

it would be varied and quality, but i wouldnt mind being able to play at me own night, seen?!

north/south combo is all good....hold tight

i like discussions like this...always interesting to hear different people's views.

asok - your choice in d&b seems to be quite similar to mine, lee is really good, him and fierce are really underrated, if you were at our night you would have heard fierce's mixing skills - dare i say up to andy's standard!

how did squiggle d' go on saturday? i was down at the contact theatre....weird but cool, specialist showed how good (and also underrated!)he is. the rig broke twice, but it was a good night...still trying to work out how they got more people than us, with next to no promotion and charged more £ to get in?!!!! the mind boggles....

hope sophonic goes well on friday, and spell201 on saturday.

anyone wanting to get involved with Void, whether it be DJ, MC, promotion, general ideas or giving us loads of money (ahem), email void_manchester@yahoo.co.uk

Well ... I know I've said this before -- but I'm gonna say it again :blart:

With the exception of J-Majik [da man!] all the "big names" I've seen play so far have only disappointed -- DJ (over)Hype(ed) @ X springs straight to mind.

"Big names" just seem all about the mon£y -- whereas the up-n-comin playaz n MCs are all about the scene -- n I find much more feelin & passion in their sets.
I'd rather go to a night where the local talent is playin [like last week's nwdnb nite] any time.

They make good tunes to play n listen to; but as far as playin out is concerned - big names can kiss my ass :finger:

Big up the local talent - cos they're the big names of tomorrow!
:slayer:  :hatpimp: :nwdnb:

Andy C is a legend, but a lazy cunt at the same time. He's turned up on time about 50% of the nights I've seen him.

Personally I'd like to see Ray Keith in liverpool, coz I've not seen him play for time & he's the original Dark Soldier.
I'd like to see Randall or SS too.

Waht really pisses me off is the lack of good MCs willing to make the trip. Skibadee once in a year? Where are Shabba, Det & Fearless? Although, with the local talent I guess its not that bad. Tonn Piper is quality. He should be doing Gatecrasher SSS instead of that wanker Trip.

Just thought I'd add my opinion to this seeing as I think I have seen just about all of the above mentioned at some stage fairly recently...

Obviously I love J Majik (I have more than a small obsession with him)

I love a bit of Mampi - just for the energy that happens when he plays

Andy C is amazing - I have had the best nites in Fabric when he's been there even tho I can't actually see by the morning! (the smoke in there is mad!)

Must say I don't rate Hype much nowadays tho - was better years ago I think... I think he just has scratched too much when I've seen him lately!
Don't get me wrong tho - scraching is all well and good but too much does start to get on my nerves after a while!

MC wise - Fearless is amazing sometimes (@ slammin generally) and of course Skiba goes without saying tho I'm more of a tune girl myself so I'm less bothered about MC's (I see enough at home)

I do like High Contrast...

No one has mentioned Dillinja... I would love to see him in Liverpool tho its probably very unlikely?!

So I suppose I would love to see any of these in Liverpool... Tho I will have to convince my scouse mates which is such an effort...

Lex - Didn't Dillinja play in the L2 in Liverpool a couple of years back (with the valve sound system) - or have I been eating a load of fine cheeses before going to bed again??

Anyway, the DJ's I would like to see in the North West and of course North Wales would be:

J-Majik :slayer:
High Contrast :toke:
Fabio :toke:
Calibre :toke:
Adam F :slayer:

daze

i dunno - you youngsters. 99% of the dj's mentioned here have already played in either manc or pool at one time or another :D

Frisk
24-07-2002, 02:02 PM
Frisk
Nicky BM
randall,
hopkirk (deceased)
all those big names already mentioned really. one thing i would like to see would be a crew of MC's all working together creating wicked flow. I always seem to get hold of wicked set's on cd/mp3, (you know the type skibba, shabba d, fearless, caddy cad.) but I never actually get to see anything like that round these ways. As for Dj's as long as they don't fuck up or play shite tunes, i don't really grumble. as long as they get the vibe right between the crowd and the mc, It suits me fine. It doesn't really matter whether it's a big name, or some 'full of flava' up and coming dj/producer (FRISK :slayer: FRISK :slayer: FRISK :slayer: ) providing the atmosphere is there, i don't give a damn

Also..

Would like to see more of
Fabio
Teebee

Marky (as long as he doesnt play any cheese)

We need to get the underground going from other scenes in the UK, producers and dj's who are up and coming and all about the love not the $dollars$.

Just check Contrast from September...

Oh I had never ventured north a couple of years ago so I wouldn't know about when Dillinja came up there I'm afraid!

Shame tho - he is always entertaining...

Most of the DJ's and MC's I have seen in London to be honest but I definitely think more amd more are starting to be willing to do the trek up the country which is good for me during term time!

Saying that tho - I had a good nite on Friday listening to the local lot...

I'm just waiting to see what will go on in September onwards now...
