Put the on the review section first, get some feedback from us. As for getting them pressed, I wouldn't bother. Buy Final Scratch or a CD turntable instead

Thats not for pressing plates - they are for actual release runs.

Ure paying for the metal work / mastering / pressing on that site.

A 10" double sided plate costs about £35+Vat
A 12" double sided plate costs about £50+Vat

I used to get plates cut @ Music house in London until I bought a cd mixer !

There number is 02077007701

I think people are going somewhere else though now - the name escapes me.

but is there much point buying just plates?

you will only have to get the 12"s cut anyway and surely a mastering house will give you a better deal if you get everything from them at the same time

Cutting a plate and pressing vinyl are 2 different things.

Does Mr Fish want a shed load of records to give out / sell or does he want one plate to play out ?

Plates are cut directly onto thick acetate.

Where as the other way is to get an invert metal piece cut which literally stamps the grooves onto thinnner plastic.

Once u have the metalwork (£400ish) then I suppose u could cut copies cheaper. But what's the point of that when u can get a plate for £35-50 ?

@ sol, the other place is called stones throw, and from my experiences their plates are poo poo.

@ bugfish, if youve got loads of dosh, and dot mind making or not making any money, then the best way to get vinyl out is by going through a distribution company like nu-urban music. you pay for the pressing of the vinyl (£500-£700 inc vat for 1000 light-weight 12"), then they distribute it in the shops and do all the promo work, and then you get the loss/profits and they take a cut of the profits or distributing it.

it is far too expensive though, and after speaking to quite a few people recently, the whole 'buying of records' in england is slowing down massively. is this a reflection of the worlds economic status, people saving money due to the threat of war, competition from smaller 'tiger' economies ie. south asia etc etc etc! if anyone wants to set up a post-grad, boring as fuck forum, for bored bastards like me to speel shite from their uni days, let me know!
