no im not a nerd ...
-but , did u know u can download an emulator ( clone of a console) and the roms ( games) for free off of the web.
nes, snes, megadrive, playstation, nintendo 64, neo geo, arcade emulators etc ......i downloaded the playstation emulator , opened it, it asked me to insert the game disc, i put in a playstation game cd into my pc , and it worked , so its not BS...
u have to download the emulator ZIP file, then un zip it, and do the same with the games.........
some arcade games take 30 mins or more hours , but snes and megadrive / genisis take about 2 minuts....
try these links or search the web for emulators and roms in google.

i soooooo want vice city and splinter cell:cry:
what do you want em for deval?
Hacve you got a chipped ps2 or xbox?
drop me a line and let me know.
Did you lot know that with a little knowhow ROM files can be burnt to DVDs (using a DVD writer of course) and used in your chipped PS2/X-Box?
And no, I don't know how to do it, I seen someone do it before tho
I've chipped my Xbox and upgrade the HDD to 120 gig.
It's fuckin ace - Basically my Xbox is a capcom acracde machine with 475 games a NES with all the games, a snes with none other than Mario cart ;). A N64. Also an Atari 2600, Speccy, Amstrad . . the list goes on - plus the Ps2 emu is in final stages.
On top of that it's also a DVD player, Mp3 player, DivX, VCD.
I can goto blockbuster rent a game and copy it to the hdd on the Xbox and have it forever - the 120gig drive holds 40 games, and when u want rid - just delete it :D
It's quite simply it's the best investment i've ever made.

sounds like you have the dos version of mamae that needs command lines typing in and stuff..look for a version called 'mame32' that is the windows version of mame and its dead easy to get running..id post a link but i cant remeber where i got my version from..
Remember guys that if you're usin the DOS version of MAME it uses command line shit to load the games (ie, it doesnt have a main menu or anything). so basically if you just run it without any parameters it doesnt
BenDPloy - Give the readme file a scan and it should tell you all you need to know, it's well fiddly to get going but when you get street fighter 2 workin it's well worth it!
Lee - how in gods name did you get all that put into your xbox?! sounds absolutely sweet!

I have a CD with around 600 mame roms on it if anyone wants a copy. Just PM me and i'll get it to you somehow. there are some absolute gems on it like street fighter 2 and final fight.
The cd also contains the emulator itself so it has all you need to get up and running, although it is quite an old version. i would recommend downlading the latest file.

where and how did you get this lot done?
i just got an x-box last week and it is fuckin ruuuude! the graphics are spot on, and i love the way you can copy audio CDs straight to the hard drive.
My mate's have got a router with ethernet ports so im gonna convince them all to buy x-boxes and get some LAN business goin' :slayer:
how do you copy games to the hard drive? do you have to have it chipped?
i'm gonna search the internet for mods right now...:D
Sol -- how / where did you get all that done to your X-box?
I did it all myself.
I got the matrix chip and upload the new bios onto it.
Then I bought a 120gig HDD and replaced the old 8 gig one.
Using various utils u can find on the net u can use ure PC to ftp to the HDD of the xbox with a Xover cable.
One particular util for example lets u copy entire games to the hdd so u dont need the CD. Others play Divx / Mp3 and dvd's (region free).
Best Place to start is here www.xboxscene.com
It opens up so many posibilities for the console.
If u need any more info lemme know !!

cheers mate, i was looking at all that stuff on t'internet yesterday but it looked a bit confusing!
BIOS generally baffles me though :laff:
it would be so cool to turn it into the machine that it has the potential to be, also you can run linux on it which is a bit mad.
also i never knew there are 2 versions of the x-box out, like v1 and v1.1, madness. they are just the same really so i guess it doesn't matter...
i'll do some more research!

Think I'm gonna have to track down & capture a local techy geek n force em to sort my Xbox for me ...
... otherwise there's an overwhelming probablility that I will end up with an expensive Xbox-shaped paper weight if I attempt all that myself ...

well from what i have read, you can fit a chip witout any soldering needed, and you can't fit a bigger hard-drive unless you have a chip...
i'm gonna think about it :hmm:

Well once u have it sussed -- drop me a line n explain it to me!
Adan - It's actually quite easy . . . . . .
check this
http://www.messhia-cerveau.net/telechargement/xbox/Evolution-X/SlaYer's%20Guide%20to%20a%20Modded%20XBOX%20v1.0.p df
Just ignore the bit about installing your own chip !!!
Looks like this was written in the days of soldering chips in. Mine slotted in in 5 mins - no solder requireded !!!
Oh and ignore the bit about the hdd upgrade - "long tedious" !!
Well it took me the best of 10 mins :laff:

aye lad, traded the cube in for it...best thing i ever did :slayer:
it's the rudest console by far, i mean you can copy tunes from CD and CDR onto the x-box hard drive and them play them back as the soundtrack to your games!
how bad is that?
:finger:
you should all get em round your gaff and hook em up through the ethernet ports on the router for some lan business...that would be shit hot :slayer:

Nice one Sol
That .pdf file was very useful & made things a lot clearer ...
Only thing is; I am totally thick when it comes to messing with hardware to that degree!
Don't spose you know a link to somewhere that will actually explain exactly what yneed to get (software n hardware), and how to do the modding step-by-step?
(So even a fuckwit like myself can understand it!)
