View Full Version : North Wales Drum and Bass
Anyone interested in starting a D'n'B night in North Wales - can you contact me: bobcofi@aol.com
There's plenty of decent venues although Time in Bangor is the only mainstream venue but at £700 - fuck it! There's already a D'n'B night in the main bar called 'Fission' although I aint had the chance to check it out.
Anyway, summers nearly here - that means party season! Anyone got a big sound system? Thats all it takes!
Whoevers going to the Manchester Gutter Funk, i'll see you there.
We should do a NWDNB sound system in the heart of wales...i believe Void can help out on this one...do maybe a 12 hour thing...well whatever.
What does the board think?

£700 aint that bad a price for gettin Time ... for that price you get both main room & curved lounge; with a capacity of about 1000, thats bigger than Squiggle @ K2.
U'd also get the best sound rig in North Wales, and the security staff too. £700 is only 350 people in @ £2 each ... do the math' it aint that bad.
The licensee & them involved say that if a night went well & was to be regular (for a period of time..) then the price to hire Time would be less cos then they'd do stuff like give the option of takin off the bar profits too.
If anyone did a night there, they would definately not lose their money; The only real problem is stumpin up the ca$h (dunno how much deposit would be needed) in the first place. Also only dates free to book Time is Friday nites over Summer.

When you're talking about the costs of a night, it costs more than just the venue. there's flyers, posters, dj's, mc's etc...
If you are serious about wanting to do a nwdnb night, or anyone who wants to do a night in Wales, get in touch with me - I'd be up for helping.
I promote Chrome/Sophonic sessions and am always looking for something new to get involved with.
mail me at sophonic@hotmail.com
Your right about the extra costs involved with a night, thats why i'm not into the whole Time thing. Venue is pretty good though.
Just had a chat to one of my mates who's got a venue sorted for a breaks night. It's at Hendre Hall just outside Bangor. Few of my mates also do a techno night there its pretty good although maybe a bit out of the way.
I'll keep everyone posted when I know some more.
P.s the nights called 'If you can't BEAT them, BREAK them!' - I thought it was quite clever!
I think with the walth of talent that obviously exists on this board we would be stupid not to try and make something of a dnb night.
I can get flyers/posters/website built/designed for nothing...
Stev/Si/Sol/Tim all have experience promoting..
There must be like 15 dj's on here at least, and a good few MC's...
I know it takes some money to do things properly but if we can cover the cost of the venue and some of the dj's work for free then maybe we could pull something off. Im treading on ground i dont knwo about though - I'll just build the website...and if its an NWDNB night we put on then thats ok cos the websites nearly built!

Me and Jim are well up for helping out in any way we can, should be phat if we can sort it out :D
Sorry, i'm new to this board, hadn't seen all the previous threads.
We all seem pretty serious about doing this so it must be time for action!
Is everyone up for giving Time a go? With the right Dj's we clould fill it to capacity, but only in term time. Bangor loses a lot of students over summer - same as anywhere really. IncOgnitO -could you find out from your mate when the available dates are?
Asok - when you said you'd get flyers/ posters etc for free, is that just designing or printing as well?
Stev - can you give us some prices on booking Si etc? I'll do it for free, as i'm sure most of us here would.
What does everyone think? Are we on the right tracks?

Isnt £700 a bit much for a venue, when on top of that we will need flyers, £150 for say 8,000-10,000, posters, another £100 + for about 500. Also will a big name need to booked to get 1000 people in??? Is there any cheaper, smaller venues that could be used???
I dont know thats just my opinion what does everyone else think???
Should be good though if we can sort it out

Thats it Mr Sloss, this time you have gone to far... :p :p :p
I can get someone to do all the design work for free - he loves doing it. Its the guy who made the logo (the main one not the one on this page) and hes pretty good. I could help promote the night in any way, and obviously me n sol would have to play because of our involvement with the site itself. Id play for free - pretty sure sol would too. Dont know about Si, but maybe we could get high contrast to come up and do it as well (keeping that wales thing) or one of the manc dj's like XTC, Daze or maybe even Marcus.
I know this adds more expense but say 1000 people at £4 a shot - thats not bad at all - even if we only half fill it.
Im going on about stuff I dont know much about here though we need to wait and see how stev and sol and the lads reply...

ok ..so we know only friday nights are available at Time...well 2 of those each month will clash with X and Sophonic, and also there is the existing Bangor dnb nite on a friday that none of us here have ever been to,which is either weekly or fornightly, and others on here had spoken about nights clashing with one another, and this is a very small city in rural north wales lets remember.the local nite had a guest dj from plymouth recently..so i gotta check this place out first, but if you have to wait to be signed in(like another night i went to there)then it can fuck off!me and mrs b will go and have a nose this friday, someone is already trying to do their bit locally so....

D&B nites @ the Main bar in Bangor students union; you do have to be signed in (bollox). Also, over the summer period, that venue is closed cos there's no students about. Problem is, up here in the boonies, Time kinda have the monopoly = they got the best & biggest venue & sound rig. But .. there are other smaller clubs not too far away in Rhyl (which is closer for ppl from L'pool & M'ster to get to). I can look into the price & availablity of these (thought they also have their resident nights). Also other problem is that Rhyl is rough as f*ck .. and yer chances of copping a slap @ some point in the night can be fairly high. I also know of a country farm/hotel kinda place that could possibly be used ... I'll have a root around & see what I can find .... :(
