Depends how your making music.

If you do a lot of programming Reason 2 is great, you can use it alongside cubase sx for greater flexibility.
If you use samples or are doing hard disk recording then pro tools is the daddy of the studio, excellent programme, easy to use, reliable and professional results.

pm if you need a copy of this software

should be able to get them no prob.

;)

There's no right or wrong way when it comes to writing tracks.

You need to find a soloution you feel comfortable with.

If it's PC only, then either Reason or VST (using either Cubase / Logic)

I started off using buzz tracker years ago. I used to love it. However programming beats in hexadecimal did become a little tedious.

Cubase / logic always seemed to baffle me - but if u sit down with em and be patient - they are easy.

what about hardware? what is the best or most usefull sound card to get, i've seen and want the soundblaster exdigy and audigy, the stats look realy good but the price is, more or less, telling me to pull me pants down and get ready for expensive penetration, are they worth the money or is there anything better or cheaper and just as good? :afro:

its a YAMAHA 'Rm1x' Hardware sequencer anyway. It's quite old now but imo its the shit.

I remember at one of the free parties under the bridges on Water St. i think in Manchester, they'd been busting out the filthy dnb all night on the decks, and then this guy came along with one of those akai mpc2000xl things that woody posted up.

Plugged it in, and ran mad beats off it for the best part of an hour, pressing buttons now and then.

Was mighty impressive. Remember this one Antix?

woody
13-01-2003, 03:37 PM
yeah, you can do mad shit on them...

they are to hip-hop heads, what the 303 is to acid heads...

When I was Djing in Autria they had an MPC2000 XL inbetween the decks (as well as the mixer!). All these crazy Austrian dj's kept coming over pressing buttons - they'd sampled some one saying "Wicked" and where playing it back at various speeds.

Here's the gallery of the said night

http://www.djsol.fsnet.co.uk/element_web/vi_gallery.htm

And dont look at the Sol website - It's well outta date - and I cant remember any of the FTP details to take it off line !!! :D

word on the street is that korg are gonna release a posh triton-based electribe thing with a touch screen and stuff..and roland have a posh groovebox thing coming soon as well.. hopefully this means there will be a load of last years gear being sold off cheaply..

its magic...

no really, you need to add an image tag mate...when you reply to a post you will see a little button above the box you type in with IMG written on it, all you need to do is click that and then paste in the url of the image you are trying to post.

(you know how to do that yeah? just right click the image on a website and select "properties" then copy the url with ctrl+c)

same deal for your sig, just go into the user cp and add the line of image code and it will show up...jobs a good'un :slayer:

woody

and the price of the akai, its about £1200-£1600 new for the basic one, going up to like £2500 for the fat studio version...:mashed:

stalag
14-01-2003, 03:32 PM
@bumfat --- yes, that akai does look pretty sweet - but i'm going with the rm1x cause you can pick one up for £120ish on ebay, whereas there's an mpc2000xl going today for £300! (the rm1x is 260ish brand new)...

..cost is, unfortunately, an issue.:(

Stalag!

Before you splash out on an RMX1, have a serious look at the yamaha SU700! Its like yamaha's answer to the MPC2000 range, but a whole lot cheaper!

ive had a go on one and its phat. you can upgrade the RAM to 128 meg i think, you can retrofit a ZIP drive as well i believe and you can add 8 phono outputs to it as well! :slayer:

Its got a phat sequencer in it so you can take it into your room late at night, don the sacred cans, and just make beats!

check it out here (http://www.yamaha-music.co.uk/products/music%5Fproduction/samplers/SU700.asp?sectionid=96)

The SU700 would probably cost you around £500-£600 i reckon brand new. Not too bad considering it does everything! It uses all the same upgrade stuff as the A3000 sampler (multi outs and stuff). A mate of mine has one and i was on it for abut 3 hours with a pair of headphones on! Its got some mean effects built in too! same Fx processor as the REV500 i believe!

I only just scratched the surface of it, there's so much in there. Ive got the review of it in Sound On Sound somewhere, I'll dig it out. Basically its wicked for creating beats and phrases and you then lay them down in its onboard sequencer. Then you can sync it to cubase/logic/whatever via MIDI!

:holmes:

It looks fappin ill too! I love the proper old school transport buttons

if anyones after a decent cheapish soundcard then the midiman audiophile 24/96 is the one to get i reckon..shit for games and doesnt have as many nice add-ons as the soundblaster but the sound quality is light years ahead...although i might get a soundblaster for compatibility with some of the tasty new games coming out..doom3 especially! :csaw:
