But for anyone not too partied out after TaPh's Phat Camp extravaganza ... How about a bit of Simon "Bassline" Smith? :slayer:

Right then.
We havent been to TIME since last July when we went to a crap Fission night and we said we wouldnt go out locally again.
but it was Simon Bassline Smith and we NEVER get any name dnb here so we had to go and see.
It opened at 8 but we got there at 9.No queue, straight in cos the place was empty. Now the main room is sorta standard raveytechnotrancey thing, which is usual in Bangor, and the 2nd room is called "the curved lounge"cos thats what it is! Well they had made an effort and had sectioned off an area with drapes, hiding the pool table and food bar, there was even a vinyl stall selling trance but no dnb!
Well the dnb was on from the start, obvious tunes, in that I had them all! About 4 people dancing.Sound system quite rawkus for in there, but we werent inspired to dance. At 1030 there were 3 people on the dancefloor and one of them was eating chips! The main room was starting to fill up. now in the dnb room we had some scratching and a small amount of MC'ing. The scratching was good initially, but deteriorated after that, the MCing was crap. ok, I know I cant do any better myself ! It didnt help that the microphone was fucked. Our general feeling was "ditch the scratching and get a decent mc" cos the tunes were good. People were trickling in, 20 on the dancefloor,3 beer boys shoving each other around in the middle, and another 3 rowdy chanters. Then the DJ played LK into Playtime , luckily there was a chair nearby! Others seemed to enjoy it. One of the bouncers was eating chips.A stilt walker in fancy dress came in briefly before ducking back into the main room.Only in TIME does it appear to be more bouncers than crowd! Dolla came on at 11pm but as there was no microphone no one was to know! There were about 30 people dancing and thats how it stayed all night except at one point there were about 40.The main room was quite busy, but the beats were dull.Simon Bassline Smith came on at midnight.MC Presha was there Im told but there was no mic.Now SBS we've never seen before, indeed he rinsed out some heavy basslines, and tunes we didnt know. Some weve heard out but cant name. the 2 i could name were J.Majik: Capoeira (which I Like) and Lyric on my lip(which we are fed up of!). One tune he played that we really enjoyed had male arabic style vocal on it? whats that? I spent a few minutes in the main room cos the lasers were on and the DJ was working it, and at that point it was more exciting than the dnb room to be honest! In the dnb room one guy was banging a glass bottle on the speaker cab along with the music..badly.Number of nwdnb boarders spotted? 3..including Me+Max and Mr Gone4Smoke who will probably say he had a great night, but then im a moaning old git ,who has been to too many quality nights!!! Although Im making it sound grim this was really a bloody good dnb night for Wales, dont get me wrong, over a year ago we had Prime Cuts (Scratch Pervert) who played 1 hour of dnb. and he aint reallya dnb guy is he?
I respect the promoter for bringing in a dnb name, but despite a lot of publicity not many turned out.Respect to Lee and Mark for travelling up here from the Wirral. Its a reflection of the scarcity of dnb fans in N.Wales, and the whole experience reminded us why we travel to Liverpool and Manchester!SBS will probably be a lot more exciting at Sophonic with a proper crowd responding, and a decent mc.But our DJ Si Smith is going to show him how its done properly.Roll on Sophonic Sessions. bmft :moon:
