Official word from Creative / EMU systems . . .

"E-MU will not manufacture the hw samplers in the future and they will also stop manufacturing the following modules: Planet Earth, B3, XL1/XL1turbo, Turbo Phatt, Proteus Custom. They will not produce even the sampler options in the future, they are available while stocks last."

That means no USB addition or no more Firmware updates. And I was quite looking 4ward to the FAT32 file system. :(

I believe that the EMU V5 software sampler is still in development via creative.

Sad news - it's another top sampler which cant hack the pace in the software market.

In the past year we've lost Akia, Yamaha and now EMU from the h/w sampler market. Whats left !!!

akia are still making h/w samplers aren't they?

anyway - they are shooting themselves in the foot cos we all know that NOBODY buys software. :agree:

It's a bit of a shame really.

things have to move on though.

Software samplers are better now, and quicker and easier to use than hardware.

But... there must be thousands like me who have cracked copies.

If I had the cash and it was something i really wanted, I might buy it. (although having said that I just got that Novation V station for free as a crack). But I am skint.. But I would like to have saved for something similar, to have a hardware synth.

But if the sofware ones now are pretty much as good, they why bother.

There should be something that prevents companies going bust or whatever from piracy (i'm guilty). I own a few shit games and that's it. The rest are all dodgey.

If I was running a business I may get legal ones.

So there must be enough Pros out there to keep them going.

So that's why the E-mu E5000 is going for 399.99 brand new in Digital Village and Turnkey.

Still tho, I'm not sure I agree with software emulations being easier to use than their hardware equivalents. Sure, they may be faster, able to store more samples (depending on PC spec, etc.), but all those tiny on-screen controls get on my nerves a bit sometimes! and i'm sure some of you will agree!

Nothing like a good ol' hard(ware) knob to get your fingers around :drewl:

That's true, sometimes I really want to have some Hard(ware) knobs to turn.
:(

I want one of those midi control panels...any of them any good? like that Phat thing?

and if its all coming out of the back of a soundblaster stereo mini-jack

give me 10 balanced outs any day.

[i acknowledge people have better soundcards but most dont]

Check out the Kenton Control Freak midi controller, got plenty of knobs and buttons and stuff for under 100 quid methinks.

Damnn... can't believe Akai was going to stop production too! So no more MPC's either?!?

I guarentee this will be one of those things where hardware will die and then come back into fashion, just like MIDI where everyone sold their analog shit as the new thing came around and then some true originators find a use for the stuff no-one wants..... next thing you know... EVERYbody wants the stuff they chucked out :D

I recon they (hardware people) should do research into sofware, but still make Manual controllers for them. Maybe ones with lots of process power built in as well. That can be added on to like a Rotstax Hampstercage. If the only advantage of hardware is the knobs and sliders, then that's a way to go.

I know peole who got a digital desk about £2000 ( with auto knobs with memory), two samplers (one akai) out board compressors DAT, and a Synth. .... And they just use the PC and Plugins...the rest is just for show.

I like the way on PC virtual stuff, all your settings and contolls are saved..You can switch between projects easily......Although I have never personally done it any other way.

Ammendment to that above. . . .

It's only AKAI UK that went in receivership - the america side is still in business.

Yeah I agree I've stop using my sampler alot more cause saving is to easy wit software n zip disks cost 2 much. Though I do get a better sound from my sampler especially wit beats. And no wonder no one buys software would u shell out £600 for logic when the version is full of bugs that needed 2 b fixed at least wit hardwarwe u know it going 2 work.
