Do you guys worry about things like what key signiture your tunes are in,when you are produceing? Do you think a good background in music theory is something you need to become a top producer?

it's not totally necessary, but if you're producing more liquidy musical DnB, some basic knowledge of key signatures and intervals will make things quicker (as in you're not using trial and error to see what sounds right), but not necessarily better.
by producing for a while, you get a basic knowledge of how things sound good together anyway, so even if you don't know the correct terminology, the knowledge is there. just keep doing it and your musical ear will improve. also, listen to other genres of music and work out what is going on and try playing it on a keyboard/guitar etc, because different types of music use different musical scales/keys etc.
casino royale, basically is a surf tune, the bassline is a bog-standard surf music bassline, but still sounds ill. and temple of doom by fresh uses an indian mode in its bassline.
just enjoy producing, and post stuff up here so we can help u out.

i agree with z base here. ive improved so much recently because ive been getting musical tips off my mates. ive always had a good ear for music but i feel so much more confident when writing riffs etc now. it gives you such an advantage and i only wish i kept up guitar lessons when i was younger!
