well, you flash your DS so that it no longer thinks like a proper DS, so that it accepts your homebrew card, yeah? well you can get a sort of 'Boot Disk' that bypasses the DS boot sequence, meaning you dont have to change your DS BIOS and void your warranty, or risk fucking it up. this is the one that I use, its one of the more widely recognised ones.and this is the cheapest place i have found it! http://www.realhotstuff.com/m3-passcard3-p-81.html

supercards are pretty ace, and you can play GBA games on them as well which is a bonus. probably on par with the R4, just the R4 is pretty self-contained as a unit.
