....are people gonna ignore the shit and keep it with the smaller local jams like Spellbound, Void (natch!), Sophonic and Soul:ution????
I think that everyone who didnt think it already now knows that the people running that One Nation thing were a load of money grabbing bastards just out to capitalise on the strength of the scene at the moment. It's a real shame, but then I suppose it's almost inevitable it will happen, as it did with the whole UK Garage thing kicking off two to three years ago.
Also, I would NEVER pay the amount of money that Goldie demands to play anyway - he's shite and he's a bit of a tosser...
So, all I'm saying is support the local nights run by the people who have been into d&b for years...our lot have buying tunes since 1996, I know the Spellbound crew have been running tings since day dot and as for Marcus....well, nuff said....
It's all well and good going to these monster nights, but the promoters probably have never been to a d&b club before, so what would they know about putting on a good night for us?!
Thats my rant done for today
Ezzzzzzzz
I've always been happier going to smaller (>500 cp) gigs.
It's more of a personal thing I suppose - you feel like ure actually part of it rather than a huge money makin' scheme.

thats exactly what i was attempting to get at sol...even though it took me several paragraphs to say what u did in a couple of lines!!
Yep you hit the nail right on the head there - although, One Nation was a small event. I think the venue holds around 600 but it had an extra room, but still it can't have been much more than that. Like you say tho, promoters were seemingly just in it for the money. shame :(
I had my heart set on going to Soul :o ution but stuff came up and i missed it, i've not been to any DnB nights in mancs really except the "free parties" (which funking rock by the way), altho some of my mates have been to squiggle and spellbound, and all say that they rock.
I'll definitely be going to the local mancs nights run by people who know what they're doing. Pointless getting tied up in this "wow it's <insertnamehere> big name night so gotta rock". Keep the local scene strong!

Ok Ok ok alll.... i agree...
but lets takea look at things from another angle.
I am not biased either way because i dont promote or dj in big nor small venues, and can look at things from a punters point of view. Ive also been going out raving/clubbing since about 1993 so i know a thing or two about the scene.
I used to MC in a club with a small <500 capacity when i was about 18, and i loved that club more than any other ive ever been to. I also used to frequesnt a hous night called maximes in wigan in about 1994 that used to play old skool and old skool ardkore (and still does) and that was small as well, and hence, was amazin.
On the other hand i have been to helter skelter and shit like that - Tribal Gathering in 1997 listening to Roni Size smash up the whole place, and that was awesome...so i dont think it matters about size/who is playing etc....but that works both ways. I would go to see Goldie....I did go to the obsessionz nights a couple of times last year and loved em, and they had big players didnt they.
Id be right excited if i was going to the valve sound system tomorrow night, and thats a big name thing isnt it....(its in the guiness book of records). I did actually want to go to one nation AND sophonic AND ...etc etc etc, im glad i didnt go because it looked shit after all the stuff i heard about it, but that doesnt mean to say a massive event with massive dj;s would always be bad now does it?
Id be interested to see what others think. I think a good nights a good night and you can have em anywere, and thats without me thinking "shit, i had to pay bryan gee a thousand pound to do that" or "i didnt get that gig cos its too big", so maybe my opinion is just as biased after all...
I dont disagree with you guys i just think that cos this list is full of peeps who go to small events and like the local scene, we forget that there is a big world out there. Maybe thats a good thing in some cases - i love the fact that there is a local scene (or ui wouldnt have put effort in to build this site with sol for free), but, arh well....rant over...lets continue..

no man, you are right...what u interpreted me as saying was not quite what i meant exactly...
i dont tend to go clubbing all that much in the NW as im all over the place most of the time (hehe)...but i've done the festival thing, fabric, london one nations, etc...
a well thought-out big event that is SAFE and properly run can be incredible, its just when people try to do it and get it wrong cos they are in it for the wrong reasons it gets my goat...
maybe in hindsight Void shouldn't have started at a fairly large club that hasnt had d&b before, and we hadnt done really big nights before (only 200-300 capacity), but we are headz, love the music, and wanted to do something small but booming....also we mixed it up with locals (albeit students) and a couple of what you may call 'B' list DJs....
i think that hits the spot personally, but everyone wants to see Hype and Marky u know...not Red One and C4C....
ah well....now all the NWDNB crew know not to go to 1N or similar shite again.
Well i'd probably go to One Nation - only at the Rex tho, where it's run by people who have a rep for doing good nights.
I've been to Slammin the last 2 NYE's and that has been absolutely amazing, Skelter@Global Gathering last year, used to go to Compulsion@Bowlers, all those were large events that were wicked. But like you say, they're organised properly. Shitty things like the 1N in Manchester just arent the same. To be honest tho, I expected it to be real good. I'm talking as a punter here i've never done any promoting or such so i'm not so clued up that way. And the night was good, fucking damn good, until whoever organised it messed up the licenses and ripped people off on the door or what not.
After all, it's the peopel who make an event, right? Along with the DJ's/MC's too :)
Enough rambling from me!
