Ps3 lower res than 360!

Does anyone know why nearly all PS3 games only run at 720p whereas the same games run at 1080p on the Xbox 360? There must be a scientific reason for it, other than the fact its shit.
Cosidering how much it costs I cant believe it doesnt run in full HD.

graphically with most multi games there is little difference you can see usually a slight different shade in the contrast or somthing minor unless its a game that has been ported .
but they are both good consoles i have owned them both , but for me i prefer my ps3 i've always liked playstations and sony , but the ps3 is not shit . so its all down to personal preferance for example i prefer the exclusives on ps3 , i loved the killzone series an waiting for killzone 2 , metal gear series , gran turismo .

the question is, which when you think about it is crazy, is why would one game - for a random example ( dont know if this is the case with this particular game ) GTA IV could be 1080p ie full hd on 360 yet on the ps3 it would only be 720p?????? same game - similar power consoles - both FULL HD - so why??

i used gta as a random example not knowing the res but couldnt think of any multiformat.

if you have a 720p but a 1080p game you will play it in 720p only but again thats not what he's saying.

you can set the resolution on a 360 as low as 540i (this makes it possible to use old 4:3 aspect crt tellies)

there should be an option to set your resolution in the system settings on the console. some games also have custom res settings, as they can run faster at lower resolutions.

also the gpu in the ps3 is wank, not very good at realtime OpenGL rendering, and since most games in HD use OpenGL or FireGL then it's a bit fail.

it depends on the native resolution of the game, regardless of the platform ur playing it on, although i think there are more games coming out for ps3 that are 1080p than 360.
either way, you cant see the difference between 1080p and 720p on screens under around 40 inches.

p.s i read the original 360 only runs at 720p maximum resolution and only the 360 elite can run games at 1080p...
