To all VST tech heads. i need some advice/help. :seeya:

I'm using Cubase SX + Wavelab.

When installing plugins i always get confused as to where they go. :conf:

My technical mate said they go in the VST folder in the Steinberg folder (in Program files). But when i put Instruments there, i cannot get them to come up in Cubase. :moon:

So last time i reinstalled i thought i'd install everything into the VST plugins folder within the Cubase SX folder. but then they cant be seen by Wavelab.

I also want to group similar things together. Like all the filters in one folder, all the syths in one folder, delays etc. Can you just move them about after?

i just decided I need a bit of order, so pages of plugins dont come up in no particular order.

and what's the deal with Direct X plugins? do they just install into your comp and appear anyway? (the Waves bundle: can i seperate those into different folders, as there's bloodey loads of them?)

How do you tell cubase where to find the shared VST folder?

I want all my plugins to be seen by Wavelab and Cubase, and if i decide to use Logic, that would be able to see the same folder of plugins as well. Also (my main reason for asking) For reinstalling Cubase, so that i won't lose all my plugin configerations (therefore fuck up my songs).

if anyone can be arsed to reply (if they know) Nice one. Stu

I understand what you mean about sub grouping.
When installing VST Instruments I install into a seperate 'Vst Plugins' folder which I created myself in the main Steinberg folder (C:\ProgramFiles\Steinberg etc.). I do the same with any VST FX.
I suppose you could install both Instruments into the sub grouped folders in the SX folder, but you may have to create some other folders to accomodate things like Samplers such as Halion and Kontakt.
As concerns DX plugins, as far as I'm aware they just insall themselves as they do, so I wouldn't be sure about whether you can subgroup them in the same way.
