I've currently got a Creative Labs "sound blaster live! 100". Any good? Or is it essential that I upgrade?
I want to use it for recording mixes onto (using cool edit pro) and running cubase, reason and recycle. Currently I get a bit of background hiss - is this due to the soundcard?
All advice welcome.

Midiman (M-Audio) Delta Audiophile 2496
Hassle free, high professional sound quality, low latency, whatever your wishes are (except multichannel recording). M-Audio also constantly works on updating drivers. And it's also OSX and Linux compatible (if that means anything to you)...
You can't go wrong with this one... go to www.midiman.com, and look for rewievs (maybe on www.sospubs.co.uk...), you'll understand things right away :)
I've got the Echo Gina24, 8 out sound card.
Similar kinda thing to the Audiophile execpt more outs (good if you mix out board on a desk), although it hasnt got a midi interface, but if u've got a USB keyboard then it doesnt matter. Or u could get a seperate midi interface like the midi man 2x2.

Thanks.
Is the one I've got any good or is it useless? Also, what are the features you're looking for with a soundcard?

A DSP one would be nice but thats mega bucks.
The one you have is pretty standard off the shelf. Good for general computer stuff but not really for music.
Your looking for something that will provide ASIO drivers and a low latency when working with Cubase / Reason etc.
As far as recording goes something with the HQ gold plated inputs is a good start or even better optical (depends if what u are recording from also offers optical out). Although im not too clued up on the recording aspect. I'd assume that a good quality sound card would by default provide a decent input interface.
Depends on you're budget. I'd recommend the MOTU 2408 MKII or MKIII, you
can also pick the mark 1 up for about £250 second hand.
Those MIDIMAN's look like they have a very good spec though + they're also
popular so you'll get less incompatibility issues I suppose.
Good advice from Sol though, make sure whatever you get has lowest
latency you can get, it'll drive you mad if you dont.

Midiman Delta have very low latency and excellent ASIO support. And gold plated RCA's ond the back (in and out).
