Cant go wrong with the MOTU gear.
Dunno if ya may run into this problem (we did with the 2408) but you may get some probs playing back .mp3 files if ya ever use things like winamp, realplayer..etc. So if ya need to quickly preview .mp3 files you may need to use the Cubase SX built in player.

I was looking at buying one of these. But I want usb one for laptop. Obviously youre not going to say its shite, but whats it like latency wise for soft synths and what are its other plus points.

I didnt have any latency problems with it at all! I think its a good sound card the only reason why i up graded was that I needed more outputs, other wise i would still be using it.
