ermmmm...finally managed to download halion for my mac but having trouble working it out. are there any presets or do you have to load in all the samples yourself (if so i might as well stick with exs24).. any tips guys?????????????
Halion is a sampler, so you have to load samples into it, dont think there is any presets, then again we dont use it! So its up to you whether you use the esx24 or halion, they both do the same job!

i use HALion and it does the job you can get presets for it but ive never used any
go to the keyzone right click it and select inport sample then you can set your sample across the keys
go to chan/prog and here you can select wich channel you want the sounds to play on 4 stero 4 mono and 1 5.1
the loop option lets you set were you want your sample to start and finish
fuck knows what the rest of it does

is the exs24 just for logic and mac,s?
i'd use the exs24 cos halion seems to take the "ooomph" out of your samples.

I'd use Native instruments Kontact its the best software sampler I've come across. Its easy to use and their are so many different ways to manipulate a sound. There is plenty of different types of LFO'S and envelopes that can be assigned to, Pitch, Velocity, etc..
Its got loads of filters. Timestretch is isnt brilliant for sretching tempos to BPM's but can come up with great effects especially the classic timestretched drums found in old jungle records. I dint really rate the built in effects. But saving the samples is easy and there are different options for saving programs. IE if your samples are scattered all over your hard drive you can choose to save all the samples together in 1 folder with the program.
I've briefly looked at halion but am happy with Kontakt.
The Esx24 is good an very very easy to use Its limited on features
But if you want something simple use this. The newer version of it has a lot more features.
The esx24 sampler is now available in VST format so can be used with all sequencers not just Logic.

One problem i found with kontact, although the problem is more likely to be me not knowing how to properly use it, is. Can you have multiple channels going? or do you have to create more than one instance of the sampler?
you can have mutliple channels in kontakt.

How do you do that? I've been looking round a people seem to say they 'stack' up programs on different midi channels.
