right heres a scenerio- im writing a tune on logic and use es1 for a bass line (in mono obviously), then i use the north pole filter vst which is in the stereo section of my vst's- the bass line is now in stereo isnt it? and thats bad? thought the whole stereo-mono thing was:
Bass- Mono
Drums- Mainly mono but hihats and bongos ect in stereo
Pads, voices ect- Stereo
so using the north pole filter will screw things up but i have no decent filters(or similar ones to north pole) in the mono vst section. am i being stupid here?whats going on? where am i?
you can have a stereo bass as long as its panned center. the reason why most bass tracks are mono is because the human ear doesn't perceive low freq placement very well so its just better to have it in the middle.
when a mono track gets converted into stereo each channel (L&R) is the same.
Id go with what Dr Loz says, its not really gonna make a big difference if your bass sound is in stereo or mono, coz you just cant hear it as much. Unless you've gotta bass that very treble-ey and its on its own somewhere in the arrangement. I'd guess its just gonna be something more sub-ish.

Most sound systems are in Mono so if your writing for them your better off in mono (i recon), what about bouncing your bassline down when you've finished the tune (and all the automation) and then re-importing it?

apparently sub always needs to be mono, cos any panning will fuck up the cut... something about it causing two grooves to be cut on the vinyl, so it'll skip... not sure of the technicl details but i've heard that from a few people.
if you're running your bass through something that outputs a stereo signal, just bounce the track to mono i guess...
think the north pole filter has a delay on it? maybe that's whats causing the stereo-ness....
for a sick filter plug check out GRM tools bandpass tho
hope this helps
