So did a much needed "changing studios" today got everything cushty with everything hooked up better... one question though.

I'm running the Tannoy Reveals (unpowered) as my monitors and I then have a seperate sub woofer to catch the low end (and piss the neighbours off). On the sub however there's a bass level which determines how much sub you want. ... any idea what level this should be at? I mean theoretically, you could whack that bastard up to max and it would seem like you've got the phatest bass in the world.

Lee... don't you use the same setup? (tannoys and sub)?

For the moment I just put it in the middle and then played some tracks I knew well to get a sense for what sounded right.

any other ideas?

thats the best way to do it (play some tunes you know well and reference it), but, with your tannoys, you should have had a booklet for them.first of all, have a look in there (cross over frequencies etc etc etc....) and then, there is no exact rule, but its up to you!

Check knowledge website I was reading a article on calyx..an he was sayin he uses a seperate sub an was chattin about it.. maybe something usefull in the article..

Like deval said theres no exact rule afterall everyone has different shaped rooms so I suppose you always have to take that in to account.
