i've got vanguard and junglist vst but whenever i make bass it distorts the rest of the tune, n if i put a sublow under it sounds bad too :conf:
want to get a pendulum style bass sound
u need to split bass into frequencies over 3 channels.
one channel - 40 / 60 hz (very subby)
two channel - 80 / 100hz (more audible, feel in ure chest)
three channel - remove all bass using a low cut just leaving the top end (U can distort this channel without effecting the rest of the bass "tone")
Channel one might not be needed in some cases as it's barely audible - just experiment.
U got more control over the sound then. Use a low pass filter to do this - or a paramtic EQ.

but what VSTs do people use as filters? I really like the Sonic Foundry parametric EQ, but when I load it up in Cubase, it goes all jumpy and crackly (its the only vst that does that)

Oh and Rowney try resampling the VSTs sometimes (just get the sound you want, then export it to a wav). Then you can fuck about with the sample to your hearts content. It also reduces CPU usage.
If you're after a Reese bass, just sample Nitrous or something ;)

surely the whole fun behind it is producing it yourself though?

TC Audio - Filtrator, top notch - or the standard logic paramatic EQ.

producing is fun untill ya cant get somehting to sound right then it becomes a stask that needs completing ...then it can become a bag of stress......then ya switch it of and come back another time.....
and repeat...................

?? so you mean you copy your bass sound over 3 channels and then apply the eq?

Have a sine wave doing all the low end sub business and then a filtered square on top of that may be with some distortion, eqing.

ask dillinja
cant beat the dillinja bass sound even if it is in most of his tunes
doesnt he use a distorted 808 kick then thrown through some valve amps and eq, racks
sounds good to me whatever the fuck he does

Yeah apparantly its a transposed 808 kick put through loadsa distortion. Ive tried it on a few tracks with good results.
