hello all list persons.

I think im gonna buy some new kit ::

Mixer, Decks and Hi Fi stuff. So what do you all suggest. Current running are:

2 x techics or vestax
1 x cdj1000 (if i really want to treat myself)
1 x pioneer djm500
hhmmm..not sure about hi fi -denon or technics. Maybe with different speakers or should i buy seperates or what...

can you help me out...its gonna take me a while to figure out if its worth investing in all this stuff anyway...and spending all me hard saved cash...

i would personally recommend:

2 x Technics SL1200s if ya mixing
2 x Vestax PDX2000 if you wanna scratch...although i think these will supersede Technics soon

1 x Pioneer DJM500/DJM600 or the small Allen&Heath Xone2 (baaaad!)

Assuming just for bedroom/small studio:
2 x RCF Studio Monitors/Cerwin Vega Monitors (£££)
1 x Crest Audio Amp

the above are pricey, for cheaper stuff that still does the biz go to Richer Sounds, i reckon you could get amp, speakers, minidisc and CD for around £400 if you haggle, pretty good gear as well

all about the £££ in this case i'm afraid

In terms of decks i would suggest vestax because they do hold better than technics, in terms of drive and the arm, im sure many of the die hard technics users will disagree!!! But the one problem is that the majority of clubs have technics. But i do agree with void in that vestax will probably end up taking over. When looking at speakers I would advise looking at B&W 700 series the are quite reasonably priced and the bass on them is great, really picks up the low frequencys. In terms of a decent, and quite cheap amp look at cambridge audios A5 which you can get at richer sounds.

As i said to Collins, i do think that Vestax are the better deck, but as Xample said, the majority of clubs use Technics. But i reckon that could all change of the next couple years.. (psst buy Vestax buy Vestax.. :) but hey i'm biased i guess)

Personally at home I've got:

2x Vestax PDX2000's
1x Vestax PMC-05proII
Sennheiser cans

When i was looking at mixers, i didnt really look too much at anything else, i'd used the Vestax and i liked it a lot, so i went for it, what are you guys views on that mixer compared to say the Pioneer or Xone mentioned above? and what of the price of them?
I just really liked the smoothness of the crossfader, and no i dont use my setup for scratching (thats the next thing for me!), it's great just for blending which is what i do most of the time.

My hifi setup i got from Richer Sounds, i didn't go for monitors cos i dont use my hifi solely for my decks. I wanted something that was gonna give me decent sound quality above all, bass would be nice too :) i bought (just recently):

Mordaunt-Short Declaration 902 speakers
Marantz PM6010SE Amp
Sony JE470 MD deck (basic model)

that lot set me back about £500 if memory serves, i was just utterly shocked at the sheer fidelity of the sound out of those speakers, i thought they'd be on a par with my mate's Kef's or B&W's but they do seem to sound better! Aluminium drivers all round probably goes a long way towards that. The bass could be better, but i have them mounted on the wrong sized wall mountings from my old speakers, and if i get into the right part of the room the bass just booms out, maybe if i get some proper speaker stands they will sound a lot better. Still if you're gonna go for something more along the lines of home hifi rather than studio monitoring, those speakers are well worth a look.

Well thats enough rambling from me!

jus to add a little twist on things, as im sure everybody who has them will agree, technics 1200s/1210s last FOREVER! the build quality is out of this world. personally i havent tried the vestax yet, but im dying to try them out. lets hope the vestax can live upto the almighty 1210s, which im sure they will.

also, id really consider checking out the stanton range of mixers, very similar to the vestax range but much cheaper. plus they use exactly the same faders too.

Ive decieded on a few things...ive got a vestax mixer already so i aint seeling that as its a pretty decent one. What im gonna concentrate more on is firstly selling my numarks to get some technics1210/vestax2000 and then get rid of my stereo so i can get hi fi seperates jobby.

Im gonna go into richer sounds armed with the look of a man who wants a serious stereo and see what they say..

I already got sony phones (quality) and ortofon carts so i aint changin them...

I also think ill save up for one of the CD decks as well...might be cool for those hard to get hold of tunes...

Vestax 2000's every time...I f&^%ing love my decks. Although Technics are industry standard. Can be sketchy playing out if your not confident on Technics.

I'll be honest - itas that playing out feel that I want and as technics are stabdard - i think they are the ones i want...

Ill decide very soon...

but will you still be playing out on technics a little down the line? i reckon things will slowly but surely all convert over to vestax. and hey i'm not one to go with the crowd.. :)

If you're going to save up for a CDJ1000, make sure you get one of the Pioneer DJM mixers. They have separate controller cables that run to each CD deck and you can do all sorts of extra mad stuff. I have the DJM300 and it's a lovely bit of kit. The DJM500 is the one with the sampler right?

Realistically not until the weekend mate. I've just enrolled to a gym and it's leaving me proper bushwhacked in the evenings and in no mood to sort out a proper set. I've got sod all to do this weekend, and no money so I'll do it then for you mate :)
