A mate of mine said the best decks he had were Technics 1200s. I am in need of some decks and wondered whether i should go for 1200s, 1210s or something completely different.

what do you think are the best ones to go for?

if you've got that kind of money to spend - then definitely look at vestax pdx 2000's aswell.

when i upgraded from my numark belt's to direct drive, it took me ages to decide between the two, i came to the conclusion that the only real reason to go for technics is that if you play in a club (for the next few years anyway) chances are you'll use technics. but having compared the two, i'd say vestax are the more advanced deck.

ok all you die hard technics fans, please dont start screaming at me, i'm obviously slightly biased cos i have vestax, but i'd not used either and vestax purely seemed like the sturdier, more powerful deck. but yet they are different in many ways. i dont use the extra buttons (reverse, adjustable start/stop speed) but the +/- 50% pitch aswell as the +/- 10% adjuster can come in handy.

the only question is, will they stand the test of time like the technics do? who knows if i'll still have a working pair of pdx2000's in 20 years.. :)

best advice i can give is to go and actually put yer mitts on as many different kinds as you can, in-store. and see for yourself.

are there any other good alternatives to 1200's or pdx2000's in that price range anyone?

oh and by the way - when i say 1200's i mean 1200, 1210 mk1,2,3- they're all the same thing really arent they? apart from the mk3 not having the 0-pitch click. please correct me if not :)

Cheers for that Poi. I guess i should try 'em out before i buy anything. Trouble is, i don't know anywhere round where i live that sells dj gear.(Cambridge is the nearest city if anyone knows any good stores?)

£700+ is obviously a lot of cash and i want to make the right decision. At the moment it's the only way i can listen to some new DnB (no good nights down here) and i might as well mix and try and get some interest in the music among the trance/garage people here ;) . In fact, i only know one person who likes DnB and he isn't really into it, just a casual listener. Anyway, cheers mate, i'll see if i can find a store demoing some stuff...

Poi has the right idea... ive never owned a pair of Technics... when i play out this is the only time i use technics... Technics are a great deck, but the Vestax 2000's are the best thing ive spent money on in the last few years. They cue up in a matter of seconds. Let the mix roll...make a cup of tea...and they are still in time...They hold perfectly for the hard core scratch dj too. Vestax PDX 2000, Reccommended. :D
