ortofon concorde are shit, because when the arm falls on to the platter strobe bit of a technics and then you rewind, the needle gets ripped off.

sure cost a fair bit.

i rekon stantons do the job fine.

I had the blue Ortofon Concords - DJ S i think - they were ok, probably get some replacement stylii and keep em spare for Gutterfunk.

Got some of these at home http://www.djstore.co.uk/cgi-bin/item.pl?&item=shum44g they're nice i'd recommend em.

I buy all my needles n carts from DJ Store.
They're very well priced, and you can pick up the odd special offer.
Free p&p too cos they just stick em in 1st class post.

Those Shure ones are what I'm getting next.

ive got numark cs1's best u can get and well cheap too, the specs are...

Frequency Range (Hz) 20-20000 hz

Output @ 1kHz (mV) 6.0

which i think you'll find is better than the high end ortofon concord carts, but about half the price, best carts in the business to be honest, provide brilliant low end without sacrificing the hi-end of things.

ortofon scratch OM for me, perfect in every way, don't get concordes though unless you have a straight tone arm, otherwise you won't be able to line 'em up right.

if you want to set your needles up properly they have to go on an angle with the grooves on your record, if they aren't set up properly, your vinyl will wear down quicker and your needles life is shortened. plus they don't jump at all, no matter how rough you are.

What frisky said...

Definitely rate the headshell mounted Ortofons (OM) over the concordes. They're cheaper, have slightly reduced record wear (apparently) and they use exactly the same needles as the concordes so your not losing out on sound quality.

We've got a pair of OM Pro S carts, my only minor gripe with them is that the needles can wear fairly quickly compared to Sures/Stantons. Oh well I can live with that! :)
