What are the general forum rules I agreed to when I registered?
Although the administrators and moderators of NWDNB Forums will attempt to keep all objectionable messages off this forum, it is impossible for us to review all messages. All messages express the views of the author, and neither the owners of NWDNB Forums, nor Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd. (developers of vBulletin) will be held responsible for the content of any message. By registering on this website you agree to these rules, and you warrant that you will not post any messages that are obscene, vulgar, sexually-orientated, hateful, threatening, or otherwise violative of any laws. The owners of NWDNB Forums reserve the right to remove, edit, move or close any thread for any reason.
What are the guidelines on posting about events?
The general rule of thumb is - No posting events in places other than your thread in the Events Around Town forum. To submit a thread to the Events Around Town forum you must be a registered user and use our event submission form. There are additional steps you must take to get your event listed, they are detailed on that page. This means there are to be no “event roll call” type threads, also do not create duplicate threads in other forums linking to the events forum. Advertising events in places other than your event thread is generally not allowed. Exception: A thread whose topic is not about a particular event but where a link to the event thread would be relevant, for example: You come across a thread in the drum and bass forum about a new Clipz track and you have Clipz or a related artist performing at your club night in the near future. It is acceptable to make a post telling people that Clipz is playing at your night on some date and give a link to the event thread. You must not post the full line up or the flyer in the original thread. The final say in whether a post is acceptable or not lies with the moderators who reserve the right to alter or remove any post or thread at any time. We will always do our best to be impartial and fair.
What is allowed in my signature?
| We think huge pictures in signatures look ugly. They also slow down the website and particularly images in signatures put a huge strain on dial up users. Signatures are designed for a small tag line, not a huge body of text or images that is bigger than the post you are making. Signatures can be one of:
Signatures must not advertise events or contain any nudity / offensive content. |
What are your guidelines on posting offensive or potentially not-work-safe content?
We do not believe in censorship. Freedom of speech is a right to which we are all entitled and if you want to discuss a particular topic, we think you should be able to do so. However, there are times when some of us would like to have the choice of viewing certain types of sensitive material or not. The best example is when we are viewing the forums from a place of work or somewhere where others can see what is on our screens. Therefore if you are posting content (particularly images) that you think may possibly offend others, it would be appreciated if you could make this obvious by posting in the thread title the words Not Work Safe or [NWS]. Mindlessly offensive posts will not be tolerated and will be deleted. You will be warned once and if you break the rules again, you will be banned.
Do you have any guidelines on forum etiquette?
Below are some simple rules of NWDNB forum etiquette. Think of etiquette as a set of guidelines. If you follow these guidelines it will keep you from making common mistakes and you will look and sound like a veteran poster in no time at all. Remember, every expert was a newbie once. Follow the Golden Rule: Do unto others as you would like them to do unto you. A big one: Be Friendly: Do not talk down to someone or seem annoyed at their questions. Make all of your posts friendly and informative. These forums are here for everybody to use to find out about drum and bass in the North West, not to show how much you know. Stay on-topic: Every forum is a little different in the way it handles OT posts (off topic). At NWNDB we're very flexible on what goes in each forum but please keep event chat in Events Around Town and non-drum and bass related chat in Members Talk. Adverts in the Adverts section only too please. Don't over quote: Copying back a long post (more than 20 lines) just to add "I agree" or "me too" is considered bad form and wastes download time. Look at the size of the post you are answering and trim out the portions that are not relevant to your answer. If you are only answering a portion of a question trim out the bits that are not pertinent to your answer. NEVER QUOTE BACK GRAPHICS. Do not post in HTML: The forum won't allow you to do it so there's no point in trying. Don't post serial numbers: If you do this, you enable software pirates to use the companies products for free. Messages containing serial numbers will be deleted. Don't ask for or post warez: Do not ask for hacks or cracks to commercial software and do not post them to this forum. Hacking commercial software is illegal and all reference to this topic will be deleted. This is a public forum and you run the risk of investigation by the software manufacturer and law enforcement authorities if you engage in or solicit others to engage in piracy of software. DON'T SHOUT: TYPING IN ALL CAPS IS CONSIDERED SHOUTING. It is much easier to read a mix of upper- and lower-case letters. Forums can sometimes be considered impersonal, you cannot see the other person's expression, whether they are smiling or joking, so a little extra effort is needed to communicate without seeming overly stuffy or curt. DO NOT Advertise: It doesn't work, it gets people really really mad, it gets the moderators really really mad, and no matter what you say it will not be taken well. Everyone HATES SPAM. This is one of the things that will guarantee that we remove your thread and ban you forever. Do not answer posts of this nature as it just adds to the number of posts we have to remove. We don't need people wasting our time and you won't get a second chance. You can advertise for drum and bass related topics in the Adverts forum but if you spam this we will still get mad. Ignore trolls: Some people get a thrill from posting "flames" (really obnoxious messages) just to get a rise out of people. This type of person is known as a troll. The NWDNB forums do not attract this type of individual but occasionally some come past just to see if they can stir up dissent by posting "This artist is crap" or "I hate students". Do not respond to posts of this nature this only fans the flames and is what the individual wants. This is another type of post that we are likely to remove from the forums, so do NOT join in. Be nice and refrain from inappropriate language and personal attacks.
